Saint of the Day September 2 | Blessed Ingrid of Sweden, Virgin

Prayer to Blessed Ingrid of Sweden, Virgin Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts on Blessed Ingrid the Virgin. Help us to imitate her virtues during our earthly life and enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven. Amen. Blessed Ingrid of Sweden, Virgin Born in Kanninge, Sweden, in the 13th century, Ingrid lived under the spiritual direction of Peter of Dacia, a Dominican priest. She was the first Dominican nun in Sweden and in 1281 she founded the first Dominican cloister there, called St. Martin's in Kanninge. She died in 1282 surrounded by an aura of sanctity. Miracles obtained through her intercession followed and led to a popular cult of this Saint. In 1405, a canonization process was begun and the Swedish Bishops introduced her cause at the Council of Constance. An inquest was held in Sweden in 1416-1417 and the results were inconclusive. In 1497, the cause was reactivated and in 1507 her relics were solemnly translated, and a Mass and Office were composed—but formal canonizat

Pope at Mass: Jesus invites us to contemplate heart of the Father Sharing in the Father's joy In his homily, the Pope focused on the older brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son. The father in the parable, who welcomed back the prodigal, also went out to seek his other son, who was upset at the welcome his brother received. The story of the prodigal son shows us something of the mystery of human relations, Pope Francis said, both in the celebration for the son who was lost, but also in the feeling of “betrayal and indignation” on the part of his brother. “On the threshold of that home,” the Pope said, “we see our own divisions and strife”. But, he continued, “we also see in all its radiant clarity, with no ifs and buts, the father’s desire that all his sons and daughters should share in his joy”. Contemplating the heart of our Father Pope Francis said that, with this parable, “Jesus invites us to stop and contemplate the heart of our Father”.

Care for poor families Sister Gloria Carrilero, Superior of the community, has staffed the Center since 1990. Sister Maria Luisa Quintana arrived two years later, and Sister Magdalena Mateo came in 2006. All three hail from Spain. They live in the midst of their Muslim neighbors without a fence around their house or bars on their windows.
